What is Westport MA 250?

In 1776, thirteen colonies signed the Declaration of Independence and launched a new nation. In 2026, our country will commemorate this bold and historic moment with the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

But what was happening here in Westport in 1776? And how can our community honor and celebrate this important milestone?

To explore these questions, WestportMA250 was formed. We are a small, volunteer, ad-hoc group of Westport residents working with local organizations, town departments, individuals, and neighboring communities to uncover Westport’s role in the Revolutionary era and to help communicate meaningful ways to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Along the way, we have learned that sharing these stories strengthens civic pride and deepens our connection to our town’s rich history. When we highlight and celebrate Westport’s past, it becomes a shared experience for the entire community.

We invite all Westport residents, families, young people, visitors, and friends of Westport to join us throughout the year as we celebrate our history and our enduring legacy.
